“Every child is an artist; the problem is staying an artist when you grow up.” — Pablo Picasso.

So many people think they have to give up their creativity once they become an adult. You’re bombarded with work, bills, and other responsibilities, and creativity hides or are lost in the woodwork. But it doesn’t have to, and it shouldn’t. Being creative releases stress and allows you to engage in a world where there are no limits.

Are you having trouble finding your creative voice? You’re not alone. These four tips will help you to find that long lost voice that’s been suffocating for years.

Explore Your Personality

Not everyone has the same creative voice. Some people may enjoy painting, while someone else enjoys writing books. The important thing is to explore your personality and find what you genuinely want.

Exploring your personality is simple. All you need to do is ask yourself what you enjoy and what you don’t enjoy, creative-wise. From there, you can dive even further. For example, if you enjoy art, what type of art styles do you enjoy? If you enjoy singing, then what kind of music is preferred?

Find inspiration From Artists and Authors You Like

There are few things more inspiring than listening to a favorite singer or reading from a beloved author. By hearing, reading, or looking at their creativity, you can be inspired in various ways.

One easy way to use this inspiration in your creative voice is by imitating them. However, it is essential to add your unique twist. In this way, you pay homage to the artist or author without stealing their work. Instead, you’re showcasing how they have ignited your creative voice — and that’s something anyone would be honored to hear.

Explore Different Styles and Find a Platform to Express Yourself

Creativity is not one size fits all. It’s okay to play around and explore different creative styles. You may have thought you would love being a nature photographer but enjoy photographing people instead. You might have thought you wanted to be a country singer, but it turns out you’re a rap battle beast.

Explore different styles until you find the one that really lets your creative voice spark. From there, find a platform to express yourself. There is a seemingly endless amount of social media platforms and fun apps to showcase your creativity, whether it’s posting on Instagram, DeviantArt, SoundCloud, or another popular platform.

Don’t Be Afraid to Receive Criticism

“Have no fear of perfection; you’ll never reach it.” — Salvador Dali.

Some people are afraid to post their creative works on social media because they are afraid of criticism. All we can say to that is, don’t be. Criticism is one of the most powerful tools you can use to grow and improve yourself. Learn from the harsh comments, and you will only build your creativity and become more assertive in your creative voice.

Just because your creative voice has been lost or silenced doesn’t mean it’s gone forever. You can find your creative voice once more by exploring your personality and different types of creative outlets. Find your niche, and don’t be afraid to showcase your creative voice on various platforms. Use criticism to hone your skills, and you will be glad you did.
